Mandarin (Grafted) 9/10

Allybanana's Edible Fruits
Update: 3020 days 3hrs

Comments: -

It gives tasty fruit in winter and looks good, I am not sure of the variety, grandma planted it in 1987, it gets runoff from the roof which no doubt helps it thrive. Interestingly this tree has a raised bed covering the graft, roots are growing from above the graft. I wonder if this increases the size and salinity tolerance of this tree.

Fruiting Months June, July, August, September

Planted: 1987

Height 4 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Sun/Shade: Medium Sun

Pruned By: 30% in

Pest Control: I suck up the stink bugs with the vac.

Sum14- planted in full sun(north and west), 1m away from the bacon avocado. Even though bacon leaves burnt to ashes (literally) , mandarin leaves did not burn in 40c+ temp. While avocado tree recovered quickly with new leaves and branches, the mandarin leaves all curled up a bit, no growth for the whole summer and autumn.

Aug14-the mandarin was dug up and repotted, awaiting to plant on a less sunny spot. Or is it a root bound problem as I didnot check its roots when I planted it in ground.

Mandarin - Japanese seedless (Grafted)

Skybow1's Edible Fruits
Update: 3505 days 3hrs

Comments: - Purchased from my council nursery on a whim, as we loved the seedless and thin-skinned variety of mandarin we would eat all winter-long in Japan. Hoping it takes off. As soon as the weather started to warm (September 2016) the plant started show good signs of growth with lots of green leaves and small, fragrant flowers.

A Japanese seedless thin-skinned sweet variety purchased from Bonnyrigg Garden Centre.

October 2009:  Some growth recorded.

November 2009:  More growth recorded and tree is looking healthy.

December 2009 to March 2010:  Lots more growth and tree is sure looking healthy.

February 2012:  A very healthy tree with lots of fruit.  Looking forward to enjoying the fruits of my labour.

Mandarin 2 Way - Imperial/Emperor (Grafted) 10/10

Fruitylicious1's Edible Fruits
Update: 2999 days 10hrs

Comments: -

The fruits are yummy and refreshing and the flowers are heavenly scented. Growing as an informal espalier at the moment in a 50 cm pot just like my double grafted orange. They are drip irrigated to easily manage the watering regime. Regular application of epsom salt and sulphate of potash to keep them lush and fruitful. Regular pruning and tieing to maintain shape of the tree.

Comments: -

Deliciously sweet large thin skinned seedless satsuma mandarins - Robbie Engalls variety.

August 2009:  Pruned the tree.

September 2009:  Some flowering activity recorded.  Applied sulphate of potash and watered in.  Removed all visible fruit buds to concentrate on growth and prevent branch distortion.  Introduced fly trap.

October 2009:  Lots of flowers but have removed most of them to prevent distortion to branches.

November 2009:  Growing well.

December 2009 to March 2010:  Whatever flowers I left on the tree have become nice large Satsuma mandarins but still green.

November 2011:  Sprinkled potassium sulphate and three scoops of Osmocote.

May 2012:  Pruned heavily leaving some branches and leaves.

October 2012:  Looks very pretty with lots of new growth.  Have selectively removed undesired shoots.
