Plum - Santa Rosa (Grafted) 10/10

Kate816's Edible Fruits
Update: 1186 days 13hrs

Comments: -

This has been grafted to a tree as a "double graft" with a Mariposa plum so that they can cross-pollinate one another.

I am so happy with it!

It flowered and "fruited" already technically, but dropped all its fruit as it really is far too young and small to be bearing fruit.

However it did everything perfectly, so maybe this year or next year we will start to see the pay off and its "practice run" kept the local bees happy.

Still in a large grow pot while we work out where to install it!

Planted: 2022

Height 1.5 metres

Growing: In a Pot

Qty: 1

First Fruited: 6 Months from Purchase in Pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Pollination: Cross Pollination

Cross Pollinator Variety: Mariposa

My four Davidson Plums were amongst a host of other fruiting trees received from Daleys, when all except for the Davidsons Plums survived, where all the rest are doing really good.. Planted out the DPlums on the full moon, in a deep hole(even though the DPlums were only 150mm high) prepared the soil with light dressing of dynamic lifter mixed in with auger, then mulched with dry grass/hay.. Maybe the DPlums don't like the treated water of our town, or the amount of water we gave them, every other tree planted on the same day is doing really well, the minature Yellow Guava already has fruit of 10 - 15 mm, the New Guinea Custard Apple has grown about 300mm. Any advice on the Davidson Plum problem would be good to receive.. They are planted in a sloping area with full sun from 10Am thru 2-3Pm, soil is rocky, with friable soil to 400mm, then clay for approx 600mm..

The tree has had fruit . It loves native fertiliser but bust be low phosphorus . I experimented with some well aged cow manure and some blood and bone . A lot of leaves are burned IE: phosphorus toxicity . Dont use anything with high phosphorus content on natives .

Spicezee - Nectarine x Plum (Grafted) 10/10

DesKing1's Edible Fruits
Update: 3059 days 6hrs

Comments: -

Heard about this fruit tree from one of Tom Spellman's excellent YouTube videos for Dave Wilson Nursery. He raves about it, and from what I've read, it's certainly worth raving about. Bought this as a potted tree rather than a bare root tree, and planted it in a garden bed in late October 2017 (Gold Coast). I prepared the bed with compost, chicken poop compost, and Dynamic Lifter, and watered the tree in with a healthy dose of Seasol. The entire bed has a thick layer of cane mulch.

It has thrived, and at present (Jan 2018) it's about one metre tall. As with all my other trees, it will be pruned regularly so it grows no taller than 150-180cm. It's self-pollinating, but there are plum and nectarine trees nearby to perhaps give it a boost with some cross-pollinating.

I fertilise with varying ratios and amounts of Dynamic Lifter or Rooster Booster, sulphate of potash, and blood and bone at the beginning of spring, summer and autumn. I also give fortnightly foliar sprays of a diluted solution of Seasol, Powerfeed for flowers and fruit, soluble sulphate of potash, and Epsom salts during the non-dormant months.

I use a soil moisture meter, and water as necessary.

If the tree continues at its current growth rate, I'm hoping it will be strong enough and the root structure developed enough that I can leave a few fruit on next season to taste.

Planted: 2017

Height 1 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Pollination: Cross Pollination

Cross Pollinator Variety: Two plum and three nectarine trees

Pest Control: Occasional Eco-Neem spray, and copper spray during dormancy. When fruiting the fruit will be bagged against fruit fly.

Organic Status:Partially Organic
