raspberry (Cutting) 8/10Magpie's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5731 days 7hrs Comments: - Always loved raspberries but found them difficult to grow in this climate. Since purchasing Heritage variety from Daleys and establsihing them in pots, I've harvested almost a kilo in the first year. The added bonus of a 2nd fruiting in Autumn is a great feature. Raspberry - Autumn Bliss (Cutting) 9/10Alice's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4941 days 2hrs Comments: - Description: Very
vigorous everbearing / autumn variety fruiting on primocanes not
floricanes unlike summer bearing varieties. Keep contained so it does
not take over the garden. Flowers: White flowers on primocane tips. Flowers commence burst in mid October. Fruit: Very large fruit with with good flavour and firmness. Harvest: Bears from late January to late April. Propagation: Dig out shoots that pop up between rows and plant elsewhere. CARE AND MAINTENANCE Soil: Plant in rich well-drained soil (slightly acid preferred, ideal pH 5.6 to 6.2). high in organic matter. Cow manure and compost added each spring. Mulch: Add mulch during the growing season with organic matter to keep the shallow roots cool and protected. Position: Protect from the hot sun in summer, burns easily. Pruning: Autumn fruiting raspberries (such as Heritage and Autumn Bliss) wake up from their winter slumber, form canes over spring and summer, then flower and set fruit during autumn. Once the canes finish fruiting, they die. This means that pruning is a simple matter of cutting all the canes of autumn fruiting varieties back to ground level in winter, leaving a maximum of 10 strong canes. Fruiting Months January, February, March, April, December Planted: 2011 Height 1.2 metres Growing: In the Ground First Fruited: 6 Months from Purchase in Pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Autumn and Spring Pruned By: 100% in Spring Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Potash, Dynamic lifter When I Fertilise: When Fruiting and Spring Pest Control: Mites - Two spotted and red noted in October 2012. Watching before controlling. so to see if predators will take care of it for me. Fungus control - Spray with Copper Oxychloride in winter when dormant. Raspberry - Chilliwack 9/10Itdepends1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5090 days 19hrs Comments: - Planted in winter of 2008 and fruited that year from the primacane (small last years cane) that it shipped with. I only started off with 5 canes and expect to get 3 times that amount this year. A summer fruiting variety where you have to leave this years new canes in to fruit next year (and then cut them out). Better tasting in my opinion than Williamette and Heritage. As with all rasberries- will crop up outside of the area you plant it via growth from the roots Does prefer some shelter from afternoon/hot sun. This is planted in the coolest/wettest part of my garden- with a retaining wall and fence to the north, shorter wall and fence to the east and plum tree planted to the south. The grass in this area used to get moss growing on it in winter. Lots and lots of organic matter, bentonite clay added (to sandy soil) to keep them moist. This variety does not have prickly thorns. (Previously I said it did have thorns- that was a typo) Update 2012 I get heaps of raspberries through summer into autumn off my patch- pleasantly surprised as to how well these go and the flavour is far superior to shop bought. Planted: 2008 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Fruit Harvest: 0.2 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 4 Months after I planted Cutting Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Autumn Pruned By: 50% in After Fruiting Pollination: Self Pollination Was this review helpful? raspberry - Chilliwack (Cutting) 8/10Birdybooo1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4992 days 4hrs Comments: - 2012 Winter: I bought this variety after reading on this forum that they are quiet tasty compare to the others. I bought 2 strong cuttings and put them in 40L pots wth sheep manure, slow release fertiisers and lots of pea straw to stop moisture loss. I love that this raspberry variety is completely throne free! It will be great when time comes to harvest. Will update later on in the year if I have any success with growing these guys. Planted: 2012 Height 1.5 metres Qty: 2 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring Pruned By: 99% in After Fruiting Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: sheep manure and slow release fertiliser with power feed every fortnight When I Fertilise: When Fruiting and Spring Pest Control: Hopefully no pest issue.
