Olive - St Helena (Grafted)

Russ3's Edible Fruits
Update: 4501 days 24hrs

Comments: -

Now here is plant with a rich and interesting history. The original Helena Olive was planted in the late 1800%u2019s on St Helena Island, located off the coast of Brisbane in Moreton Bay. This island operated as a high security prison from 1867 to the 1920%u2019s, and is today a heritage National Park. The original olive made its way from Europe to the Island, via a magistrate, and has continued
to thrive in the testing Moreton Bay environment. This plant offer's exceptional fruit and award winning olive oil. The Helena Olive will fruit in the South East Queensland climate, which for an olive is impressive in itself. Suitable for in the garden or on the patio in a pot, the Helena Olive is a beautiful looking tree. Does not like wet feet.

This is in a pot until I work out if we have room to put it in the ground.Have now planted this in the ground outside the fence line since I do not think too many people will steal the fruit. It is doing very well in the black clay and have even seen new growth on it.

Smaller more gracefully shaped olive tree. currently (spring) fruiting while in pot.

Year 2 . Still growing in pot and flowering again (spring), only had about 8 olives last year expecting a few more this year. Flavour (after brining) was vey good & meaty. No pest damage on leaves like other varieties I have

Sept/Oct 2009 Ist time flowering. Planted 2002. Maybe due to the plentiful amounts of fertilizer & Dolomite.  Cut off 3m growth rootstock (Manzanillo Cuttting) Oct 2009, it too was flowering but in small amounts.
