Fig - St. Dominique de Viollette (Cutting)VF1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5000 days 23hrs Comments: - Is an Heirloom variety of French origin. Has Violet coloured fruit with pink flesh, and supposedly excellent flavour. At the moment (Sept.), the current leaves are lobe-less unlike my other figs, and look similar to mulberry leaves (I guess they are in the same family.) Maybe as plant grows, leaves will look more typical fig like. Nearly 10 figs I have counted, which is more than the leaves that are on the tree! Not sure whether they will drop or not, but I am quite astounded. Fig - Brown Turkey (Cutting) VF1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5010 days 7hrs Comments: - My Grand-parents used to grow a variety of figs when I was a girl, and I remember me and one of my cousins stuffing ourselves with them every year. I don't think this was one of the varieties I used to eat, but by all accounts are delicious. It's nearing the end of winter, and the tree is putting out new growth including some small figs ( I can definitely see at least 4)- hope they grow! I'll most likely keep this plant in a pot - the roots can be invasive and I'm too lazy to do root pruning each year in addition to regular pruning This one is easily the fastest grower out of the 4 varieties I have. Planted: 2012 Height 70 Centimetres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Pest Control: May have to use nets to keep birds off fruit. Was this review helpful? Fig - Brown Turkey Fred1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5752 days 12hrs Comments: - Not much fruit for the first couple of years - due to birds getting them. 2009 saw us put up some 'holocaust owls' and we got quite a few figs, if we kept an eye on them. At the latter part of the year the birds were starting to get at them, so we netted it. Unfortunately, this fig tree has now died - it rotted out at the base - cause unknown Fruiting Months January, February, December Planted: 2007 Height 1.75 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 First Fruited: 2 Years after I planted Cutting Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: No Was this review helpful?
