Chilean Guava (Cutting) 8/10

HomegrownHeddibles1's Edible Fruits
Update: 6096 days 15hrs

Comments: -

A tiny shrub with very small leaves and an upright habit, it produces the tiniest berries imaginable - about 5mm across - but they are packed full of flavour.  A bit like an alpine strawberry crossed with a feijoa (pineapple guava), both tart and sweet and distinctly fruity.

These plants make an ideal mini hedge for an edible border in an orchard, vegie patch or flower bed, and can be grown in pots, too.

I've begun experimenting with taking cuttings for a cheap propagation process.

Very drought tolerant, very productive and very hardy as well.

I love this fruit! It can be eaten straight from the tree, and also used for cooking. I got this plant from my dad, it's growing so good, summer and spring really allowed it to burst with new growth. I'm hoping to get my first crop in as early as 2 years. Can't wait!

These trees are planted by Toby our neighbor and grow over the fence the fruit ripens in winter is palatable but not very sweet and a bit dry. Jesse my son makes great jam out of it though. The carawong birds eat a lot of fruit.

EDIT 2014 Going great, pushed through being shaded a bit from feijoa and almond, looking fine

Not doing brilliantly yet, but was dug out by neighbour and given to me, and a fair bit of root trauma. See how it goes.

UPDATE : Has pushed some new buds. Need to mulch it up and make it a little more comfy

This guava has been no trouble - bears prolifically. I'm not keen on it fresh (but the mice are) but is great stewed.

I haven't pruned it yet. It also suffers from burnt leaf margins - either due to elements or salinity.

Guava - Indian

MakJeng1's Edible Fruits
Update: 6124 days 16hrs

Comments: -

Heavily pruned last year so that fruit remains within reach. Pant was very scrappy for the first 2 years but with a lot of compost it has come good. Intermittant grey water.

Despite full nylon netting something keeps getting under the net and partially eats the green fruit. Doesn't taste too good so try the next one!
Next step is to wire net perimiter with bird net over the top. Otherwise there will be nothing left for me to cook into Guava Jelly.
