It originates from Chile and is one of the few cacti that can tolerate wet and cold conditions, hardy to minus 15 deg. C and even grows in snow. The plant forms a low mat and produces large edible fruits. It can begin fruiting in just 2 or 3 years which is much faster than most other cacti.
