Description: An evergreen tree with a dense, rounded crown of weeping, glossy, dark green foliage. Produces showy sprays of white, fluffy flowers in spring, which are followed by red, pear-shaped fruit.
Uses: Ornamental tree for shelter and shade. The dense nature of the foliage makes it suitable for hedging and topiary. Use the tasty fruit for jams.
Position: Prefers moist, well drained soil in a sunny to partly shaded position, and tolerates frost when established.
Care: Prune after flowering to maintain compact growth.
Planting: Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so the soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist.
