The varieties listed are the most suited to subtropical climates however in order to bear they need quite a few hours of cold wintering. Although light cropping in warmer parts tree ripened apricots are worth waiting for.

Apricot - Moorpark

A well recommended cultivar. One of the most popular home garden apricots because of its rich flavour. Excellent for fresh fruit, jam, drying, stewing and juice. Mid- to late season maturity

Apricot - Storeys (Early Moorpark)

Large, rich golden fruit with some red blush. Flesh is deep yellow and firm. Good flavour, excellent for jam, preserving and drying. This apricot is a 'Moorpark' strain, but matures about three weeks earlier.

Dwarf Apricot - Fireball TM

A traditional tasting mid season apricot with deep orange coloured skin and very sweet flesh. Suitable for temperate regions with 450 hours chilling. Partially self pollinating but will benefit from pollination with other apricots.

Apricot - Glengarry

Heavy cropping variety with small pale golden fruit and a slight blush. The tree is large, vigorous and heavy bearing. One of a few varieties that will crop in the subtropics. The fruits are very flavourful and a summer stonefruit delight. Prune branches during winter. Apricots grow best in full sun positions with good drainage and a regular application of fertiliser during the growin season. Fruit Fly and birds can be a problem and we recommend quality netting to cover the tree that is not harmful to wildlife.

Apricot - Bentley

Very similar to the Glengarry, this local selection originates from just outside Lismore. A hardy tree, that comes into fruiting early and produces good crops of good quality, medium sized apricots. Approx. chill hours 500, slightly higher than Glengarry, fruiting in November.

Apricot - Bulida

Bulida is very well suited to the inland areas west of Gatton and Lismore. The dark golden fruit is large and firm with sweet flesh. 500 hours chill required.
