Diamond River Longan 8/10![]() Update: 1041 days 4hrs Comments: - Diamond River Longan Propagated from seeds, this is one of the many types of Longan trees that I am growing. The Diamond River variety is said to be a reliable producer. Once at maturity it should produce fruit year in and year out without fail. I am not too far from you and wanted to go one from seeds. If I can successfully get a plant from the seedling, I intend to grow it on the pot so that I can bring it into the house during the winter months. Do you have any tips on how to grow the Longan tree successfully based on your experience? Looking forward to your reply and thanking you in anticipation. PatrickLinton says... [3004 days 0hrs ago] Hi Patrick Sorry but I don't have any spare Diamond River Longans left but you can buy seeds of it from Fruitlovers Nursery in Hawaii and they will send them here. It is not the best variety to grow as the fruit are a bit small. I do have a large fruiting Thai variety spare if you are interested in that one and it was grown from seed. There is a Longan tree in Springvale that has had fruit over Summer and they will grow outdoors in Melbourne. They don't need to be brought inside over Winter. But seed grown trees take a long time to fruit, maybe 7 - 10 years so it's better to get a grafted one in you can afford it as they will fruit much quicker. I had flowers on a grafted Longan this year that I have only had for 6 months so I expect it to fruit next year. Cheers!* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy |

Statistically this winter was the coldest in 26 years of Melbournes history and yet the longan plant bought from Daleys has nearly doubled in growth. Have another one that hasnt done much through winter but spring has brought new flush starting now and what looks like flowers. Will update soon. Was this review helpful? [3923 days 19hrs ago]Longans appear to need a short dry season for best flowering, although not as pronounced as for lychees. They are fairly wind resistant and do better in a humid environment.Lily says...
