Longan - Seedling (Seedling) 8/10Ahimsa Cottage's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4196 days 10hrs Comments: - I was interested to plant a logan after tasting one at a farmers market. Planted: 2011 Height 1 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: compost When I Fertilise: Spring Pest Control: I haven't had use anything yet but it hasn't started fruiting yet either. Question: I was a bit concerned that my tree appeared to be dormiant but after reading the other gardening entries i have realised that others have experienced similar periods of non growth. This morning i have noticed new shoot so i am encouraged that the spring will bring on new growth as long as i can keep the water up to it. Was this review helpful? Longan - Kohala (Marcot) (Cutting)VF1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4240 days 1hrs Comments: - I love fresh Longan fruit (usually a bit old and tatty at shops). I'm not familiar with varieties, but Kohala sounded nice enough so I went with it. Was planted early Feb. this year ('12), and has taken 2 1/2 months to finally start growing - beautifully coloured, and new flushes growing rapidly. Has been planted in path of water run-off, but is in a mound on a slope, and seems quite happy. Spring '12: after initial slow start, has now doubled its' size, and at present appears to be developing flower buds. Too young to allow to fruit yet though. Planted: 2012 Height 50 Centimetres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Summer Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Citrus feed and seasol When I Fertilise: Yearly Pest Control: Nil required yet. Longan - Kohala (Marcot) (Cutting) 3/10Paulngen's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5371 days 10hrs Comments: - 2nd year planted in ground. Tree pretty tall already approx 2.5 m vertical. Not spreading. Wish it was growing sideways more and up less. Currently, there appears to be 2-3 flower spikes, but not sure as they are too high up to have a close look. Fingers crossed. If so, can't do much about protecting the fruit (I try to wrap them, especially when there is precious few). Insects seem to like the young leaves and bite many tiny holes in them. I have sprayed neem oil and this seems to control the number of bitten leaves, and encourage the growth of more new and fat leaves. Running low on neem oil can't seem to find them anywhere in the nurseries around. Won't know if I'm satisfied until I taste that fruit. Planted: 2007 Height 2.5 metres Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring Fertiliser or Organics Used: chook poo When I Fertilise: Spring Pest Control: See above. Also suspect mildew on lower leaves (black powdery). Tried mancozeb. Does not appear effective. Was this review helpful?
