Dwarf citrus trees such as oranges, lemons, and limes are living conversation pieces. Daley's Nursery has been growing dwarf citrus trees that give delicious fruits for over 30 years. How? They graft a normal fruiting branch of a fruit tree (called a scion) to a dwarf tree rootstock to create a small tree that produces the fruit of its full-size cousin. Their shiny foliage, bright fruits, and fragrant blossoms provide year-round enjoyment and is the reason they are so sought after as containerised pots. Dwarf citrus trees require periodic repotting (every third year or so.) They have a shallow root system, so a wide container is far better than a deep one. When repotting, use a fresh mixture of one-third peat moss, one-third sand, and one-third sterile potting soil. Citrus trees respond well to pruning. Keep all the dead branches trimmed off, and thin the plant to the three strongest trunks.

Dwarf Cherry - Trixzie® Minnie Royal

Dwarf form of the Minnie Royal Cherry. It is a low chill producer of fruit with stand out flavour. It's a medium to large sized, red cherry with firm texture. The tree is very productive and has been known to set heavily in southern California. Chill hours can be as low as 200 hours and does depend on micro climate. Fruiting can be as early as November. Minnie Royal requires a pollinator which has traditionally been the older Royal Lee variety but flowering times of these 2 can be mismatched in warmer areas and an intermediary is helpful. The newer, self pollinating Royal Crimson blooming can bridge between these two. Bees are the main pollinating insects, so plant flowering herbs to attract them to your garden. Other stonefruit may also provide pollination services. Plant within 5m of each other for best results. Hand pollination could be helpful in years where flowering times are mismatched.

This bright red cherry like fruit has varying tastes during different stages as it ripens. When fully ripe the fruit is juicy and aromatic with its acid content giving it a sweet acid apple-like flavour. The tree can produce a number or crops each year, making for quite a long harvest season. Our selection is called the acerola Florida Sweet Cherry and is a pleasant eating variety that is not too sour. The acerola is well suited to pot culture where it can be kept to a smaller size. It could also be grown this way in cooler climates where it can be moved to a warmer position in the winter. A word of warning the foliage of the plant is covered in tiny irritating stinging hairs that can produce an allergic reaction. When pruning your trees wear a long sleeved shirt and a pair of gloves.

Originating in Africa, this tree bears a small plum like fruit bright orange in colour. A thin layer of acid-sweet, watery pulp surrounds the seed. The rather tender skin tends to prevent packing and shipping of the fruit, but it deserves to be more widely cultivated as a home fruit. Hardy to most conditions. Dark green leathery leaves and ornamental structure make it appealing as an interesting and edible landscape plant. Grows to a bush or small tree to 4-6 m. Imbes have good salt tolerance and are also wind tolerant. Trees are dioecious, so one each of a male and female are needed for pollination and fruit set. Plant a minimum of 3 seedlings to increase the chances of having one of each. Isolated female trees will set a few small fruit parthenocarpically but the quality and size is always better with a male pollinator.
