Paula-f's Edible Fruits
Update: 132 days 12hrs

Great tree with great fruit.......full of flavour and no fibre at all.  I keep all my mango trees at about 3 metres tall (I have 4 all together, and cut back 1 each year).  This one is in amongst my vege garden, and has a compost bin sitting right underneath, so gets all the nutrients it needs from there.

Yes i know this is brave of me in Brisbane but i'm stubborn and i just CRAVE the fruit, ever since i tried my first one, and unsuccessfully planting the seeds, i must have more! And we get such sad old hard fruits in the supermarket from Thailand, i will die happy if i can grow my own fresh ones.

optimistic of me i know but i trimmed the top two leaves to encourage branching and thought i would try a leaf cutting. It's still green after 3 weeks so you never know!

Make sure you keep it out of any and all sun. The sun is much more of a problem than the cold.

Mango - R2E2 (Grafted) (Grafted) 8/10

ManishU's Edible Fruits
Update: 167 days 15hrs

Comments: -

Update 09-Dec-2011: Got around 2-3 tiny fruits which dropped before they matured. Just one fruit remaining which is as big as a closed fist at the moment. New pic attached.

I love mangoes, my favourite being the Alphonse variety. But unfortunately we do not get it here in Australia. Daleys is seeking propogation material for the last 2 years :( The variety closest to alphonse i believe is the bowen variety. But I have planted the R2E2 variety which produce a larger fruit and is equally sweet.

This tree was in my apartment balcony in a pot for about a year before i planted it into the ground last year. And about a month later it flowered and produced 3 lovely fruits :)

This year it has already started flowering profusely (pic). I might have to prematurely remove the fruits in december coz i dont think this little tree will be able to bear the weght of the fruits if it holds on to 3 or more.

Mango - R2E2 (Grafted) (Grafted) 7/10

Amethyst's Edible Fruits
Update: 484 days 17hrs

Comments: -

The fruit was of good quality. Perhaps not as superior as a Bowen type mango but better than the majority of mangoes in Brisbane. Survived the November 2009 storms in The Gap / Keperra. 2010-2011 season has been disappointing only because it was wet during flowering and no fruit was set. The tree has made up for it with fresh vegetative growth and is getting a little larger than I expected!

Question:

It hasn't fruited since we got a few the first time it fruited.  It is planted next to a loquat (doesn't fruit either) that has outgrown it and is probably shading it out.  Should I prune the loquat severely?

I love Bowens - who doesn't?  I planted the first mango in our orchard in September - and it has grown 2ft since then.  We live on deep clay - so have put it (like all the fruit tree planted here in the last few months) on a raised mound.  Planted out with a reef fish carcass.
