Olive - old, existing Nathan's Edible FruitsUpdate: 41 days 4hrs Comments: - This poor old thing had obviously been cut down by the previous owner(s), and is now just suckers. Many of the olive trees in this area aparently bear quite well Planted: 1900 Height 3 metres Growing: In the Ground Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Summer Organic Status:Organic Question: Is it going to be viable to keep this tree? Will the suckers be worth pruning back to just 1 or 2, or will it be worth trying to graft onto the old manky trunk somewhere down low? Was this review helpful? Olive - Manzanillo Kathy's Edible FruitsUpdate: 109 days 20hrs Comments: - Summer 2010:I bought him at a closing down sale. He wasn't a happy chappy but I could see his potential. He came very wonky but with staking/training and careful pruning he should be strong enough to stand up on his own in about 6 months. Spring 2011:he is strong enough to stand on his own now so I am using the stakes and a good pruning to train him into the shape I want. Flowers everywhere this yearbut I don't think that I will let him fruit. Planted: 2010 Height 1.5 metres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: Charlie Carp, Seasol, worm juice, Blood and Bone, Dynamic Lifter (in rotation) Pest Control: He got some sort of sap-sucking gross black thing on his leaves but I just sprayed with Dragon's Blood (habanero chilli, garlic and detergent concoction) and he is right as rain. Olive - Arbequina (Seedling) Cam's Edible FruitsUpdate: 552 days 14hrs Comments: - This plant is said to set fruits early and is more suitable in warmer areas. Why did it buy it then? Well it was my husband who bought it. He knew I wanted an olive tree, so when he saw the trees at Bunnings he picked this tree out of the lot. ( *.* ) We planted this tree on the nature strip facing north/east. It has rather survived it's first Winter quite well, I guess olive trees in general are quite tough. There's hardly any growth in height but I see a lot of flower buds forming on the tree.
