Fruit is sweeter than the green kiwifruit so decided to grow a seedling (grafted and cuttings not available). First flowers in 2018 turned out to be female.

Also growing additional seedlings raised at home which flowered in 2019 - one with female and one with male flowers. Got some fruit in 2020 but lost to bush rats in spite of netting.

As a matter of interest, flowering in golden kiwifruit is a few weeks earlier than for the greeen kiwifruit, so can't get cross pollination between these two varieties. Also, the seedling from Daleys flowered earlier than my seedlings and so failed to get pollinated.

Comments: - Removed. It didn't get enough chill here to flower reliably - even though Bruno needs far less chill than Hayward and should have been ok here. I actually prefer the Kiwiberries anyway.Large vines that need a very strong trellis and resent hot weather and especially hot winds. Need a great deal of water on hot days. Not a water-wise plant here. Doesn't like any alkalinity either - gets chlorosis readily. 
Needs some shade here and lots of sand improvement to increase it's water holding capacity.

4 of these planted on my dog run fence for shade from teh hot westerly sun! hopfully its not too windy for them, but time will tell. they are all growing vigiorously with their male hayward buddy.

You have to wait for the flowers. I grew several golden kiwi seedlings from supermarket seeds. Of these two turned out to be female and one male. They pollinate successfully.

I bought this because it's self fertile, small size, hairless fruit, and because I wanted an edible climber for one of our sheds. It's growing really well, deciduous in winter. Flowered spring 2011 and appears to have a few small fruit.

Continued to fruit each year, not huge yields. Kids adore the fruit, even when it was "overripe" to my taste.

Comments: - I tried a 'Kiwi Berry' from the super market, they came from New Zealand and looked like mini kiwifruit and tasted very similar ! Has anyone else seen or tried to grow these or even know their true name ??

Comments: - It grows over the guest house providing shade in summer and letting light through in winter. the male died years ago and fruit set has been minimal. Two years ago i planted another male and i have high hopes for good pollination and fruit set this year. 2012 the male flowered and buckets of fruit with amazing flavor.

Very vigorous! You could very nearly watch him and see him growing! Make sure that you keep him under control. He doesn't have to be enormous to get his job done.

I would like to try grafting a female to him and get double bang for my pot space but I don't know anyone with a female vine. Anyone in Newcastle willing to offer me  a piece next time they prune?

Spring 2011: No flowers this year. Very cross! I got flowers on the kiwiberry but nothing on the male. I am thinking that I will graft a piece of her onto him next year and maybe her hormones will encourage him to flower at the right time? Admitedly he might not be a dud, he might justbe too young?
