Jaboticaba - Yellow (Seedling) 10/10 BJ's Edible FruitsUpdate: 157 days 14hrs Comments: - This is probably my favourite shrub to look at. Beautiful velvetty lime green new foliage, darkening to a deep green. Brances and trunks are quite rough barked, so gather moss, which is quite ornamental too. It tends to grow up only a little every flush, then the branches all head for the ground - makes it a bit tough to mow around, but very ornamental. It is in a bit more sun than it probably likes, so is a bit leggy, but is putting on new leaves now and is starting to flower, so hoping for fruit this summer or next (2011-12) Planted: 2009 Height 0.6 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Winter Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Organic Xtra When I Fertilise: Spring Organic Status:Organic Was this review helpful? Jaboticaba (Seedling) 10/10 Simon's Edible FruitsUpdate: 229 days 14hrs Comments: - I'm growing this as a hedge and am very happy. It tends to grow upwards and I have been pulling some of the branches to the side to get it to fill out. Very happy with the result I prune every three or so months to keep the hedge look. After 2 years it hit approx 2 metres, my desired height. We did a renovation at about the time, lost one and damaged another. The damaged plant was stressed and has now started to fruit. The others have not yet. Very happy with the hedge, very hapy with the fruit. My three year old loves to go and check if there are fruit and eat any that are ready Fruiting Months February, October, December Planted: 2008 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 6 First Fruited: 3 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Summer and Spring Summer, Autumn, Winter, SpringPollination: No When I Fertilise: Yearly Pest Control: My chickens get some bugs off them. Jaboticaba - Grafted (Grafted) 8/10 BJ's Edible FruitsUpdate: 380 days 22hrs Comments: - This little guy was going great guns, fruiting well at a young age. But this seemed due to stress from a bad graft, which gradually opened into a wound, and with all the wet lately, rot got in there and it lost the will to live. Have replaced it with a very large Jaboticaba. Jaboticaba 10/10 Brizzie's Edible FruitsUpdate: 617 days 17hrs Comments: - Jaboticaba is a terrific fruit tree for the home garden for many reasons. It has an abundance of luscious fruit cannily hidden from scavenging birds as the fruit grows on the branches. It is a particularly good "grazing" tree for children. The fruit is sweet and juicy - between a grape and a lychee in flavour - and is not something you will find at the fruit shop. It makes a wonderful screen so would be a great tree to share with the neighbours. The branches are not so visible but have an attractive white bark. It needs very little maintenance and the fruit seems to be untroubled by fruit fly or any other pests. I have never pruned mine and it is a lovely dense shape, If there is a negative it is the fact that it may take a few years before the first crop but it more than makes up for that once it starts to bear with heaps of fruit in spring and autumn. There is also a short time between blossom and fruit. Mine are still green but will be a beautiful dark purple within a couple of weeks. Another bonus is that a bowl of freshly picked fruit is always a welcome gift. Many people have never tried them but when they do they are hooked. I wouldn't be without a jaboticaba in my garden. Jaboticaba Emma's Edible FruitsUpdate: 633 days 15hrs Comments: - Like the yellow, but more common black fruit from the trunk of tree. Mine is not looking good after a neighbouring tree fell over, pulling this half out of the ground and drying it out. I have since put it in a pot with a bucket of water but I am unsure it will make it. Half its leaves are dead. Jaboticaba - Grafted (Grafted) 7/10Town Farm's Edible FruitsUpdate: 635 days 0hrs Comments: - Planted this one about September last year. Is in a pot close to water and gets a fair bit of wind at times and the leaves seem to be burning off a bit from these elements. Thinking of swapping it around with the bay leaf tree which is further back on the deck. It still seems to be thriving all the same. I understand this is one tree I need to be patient with with regards to fruit. Must shift this pot!
