Black Sapote - Chocolate (Grafted) 6/10Malanda231's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1898 days 21hrs Comments: - Espaliered. Takes a few years of growth before trunk is thick enough for tree to hold fruit. Only one fruit last summer at 4y mark. I see both male and female flowers, female come out later (early november when I spotted this). Rainforest tree, roots do spread in yard in cool/wet/mulched spots so I would be careful to not plant too close to a structure as not sure if roots would expand and damage. Must trim regularly in summer to keep it small. Was told grafted versions grew shorter and less aggressively than seedlings. Hope I get more fruit this year, a pretty waxy leaved plant. Height 3 metres Growing: In the Ground First Fruited: 4 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Autumn and Winter Summer, Autumn, WinterPollination: Self Pollination Organic Status:Certified Was this review helpful? I'm just reading that they need or do better with other trees to help pollinate? Cos I have 2 seedling trees bout 3m tall in big pots but the flowers never form into fruit. Thanks!ivepeters says... [3368 days 6hrs ago] Just the one, had it 10 years now, still produces stacks of fruit although last couple of years native animals have taken a liking to them. Suggest a named cultivar, less seeds if any, mine was a standard one from Bunnings, lots of seeds.ivepeters says... [3368 days 6hrs ago] Can always graft better varieties onto yours. Ask forum if anyone has any to give.* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy |
