A cold-hardy variety I thought I would give a try.  I haven't yet tasted these, but they sound interesting.  The fruit seems decorative too, when hanging on the tree.

Fruit fairly sweet, a little mealy, however must be consumed immediaely it becomes ripe as it loses vitality and deteriorates very quickly - within 24 hrs. Tends to split when ripe.

Nice looking tree and fruit is fantastic in a smoothie!

Dumps almost all leaves in spring and looks sickly, but explodes into life around 2 weeks later. Has flowered spring 2011 but still a bit too young to set fruit.

Comments: - Slow and steady performer.  It has survive a couple of winters now here in Wollongong.  Flowers appearing for the first time May 2010.

The tree is a little willywally which serves me right for saving unnamed rejected plants from junk shops.

November 2010, my first flower buds are forming up the stems, like little people doing yoga in the leaf axis.
