Dwarf Coffee - Catuai (Seedling) 10/10Ahimsa Cottage's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3534 days 0hrs Comments: - I hope to use the beans to make our own coffee eventually. I initially planted these trees at the back of our property which had a lot of clay and only managed to water them once a month and as a result their growth was slow. I decided to transplant them to along side the house improve the soil by adding peat moss and lots of mulch and where i could regularly water them. They have increased in size x5 in the last 6 months. In April this year the tree began to fruit bright red coffee cherries, i picked these squeezed the green beans and soaked them in water for 2 days. i poped these beans into a mesh bag rubbed them to remove the membrane. Then put the beans onto paper kitchen towel sitting on a baking rack. Over the period of a couple of days the beans dry out, cracks form at the top so that the white parchment starts to spilt. The parchment layer can be picked off to reveal the green bean. I have stock piling these green bean til i have enough 500 grams to trial roasting with pop corn machine. i will attach images. Coffee arabica (Grafted) 9/10Heather2's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4945 days 10hrs Comments: - We planted the 2 coffee trees behind the shed as we read they like Lime. The cement slab does seem to encourage them along. Our first crop we only got enough beans off 1 of the trees to have 2 cups of coffee. This year we got 4 kilo of beans between the 2 trees. For roasting the beans we got an oil can and devised a way to put it on the BBQ rotisserie. After some experimenting we found by doing it this method for 20 minutes it gave them a lovely taste. Fruiting Months May and June Planted: 2008 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 2 Fruit Harvest: 4 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring Pruned By: 3% in After Fruiting Pollination: No When I Fertilise: When Fruiting Pest Control: No sprays used Organic Status:Organic Question: To add extra flavour to the beans we were wondering if we could add Macadamia Oil to the roasting procedure?
