Yes I'm a huge fan of coffee trees and have made a few cups of coffee using my own beans. I am a huge novice but very much enjoy the understanding I get from doing it by myself. Even though I have quite a few plants I don't think I will be able to support my coffee addiction from them.

Dwarf Coffee - Catuai (Seedling) 10/10

Ahimsa Cottage's Edible Fruits
Update: 3534 days 0hrs

Comments: -

I hope to use the beans to make our own coffee eventually. I initially planted these trees at the back of our property which had a lot of clay and only managed to water them once a month and as a result their growth was slow. I decided to transplant them to along side the house improve the soil by adding peat moss and lots of mulch and where i could regularly water them. They have increased in size x5 in the last 6 months.

In April this year the tree began to fruit bright red coffee cherries, i picked these squeezed the green beans and soaked them in water for 2 days. i poped these beans into a mesh bag rubbed them to remove the membrane.  Then put  the beans onto paper kitchen towel sitting on a baking rack. Over the period of a couple of days the beans dry out, cracks form at the top so that the white parchment starts to spilt. The  parchment layer can be picked off to reveal the green bean. I have stock piling  these green bean til i  have enough 500 grams to trial roasting with pop corn machine. i will attach images.

This was so slow to get started. Out of 10 seeds I only got 2 sprout and out of that I only had 1 survive. Seems to be pretty easy to keep alive now it has true leaves. Can't wait to compare it against my Arabica's for flavour and growing characteristics.

All my leaves are yellowing and falling off. It may be that the leaves fall off naturally but this time last year the leaves all fell off, but they did grow back and didn't seem to miss a beat, I even got beans on them. Great smelling flowers too

Coffee arabica (Grafted) 9/10

Heather2's Edible Fruits
Update: 4945 days 10hrs

We planted the 2 coffee trees behind the shed as we read they like Lime. The cement slab does seem to encourage them along. Our first crop we only got enough beans off 1 of the trees to have 2 cups of coffee. This year we got 4 kilo of beans between the 2 trees.

For roasting the beans we got an oil can and devised a way to put it on the BBQ rotisserie. After some experimenting we found by doing it this method for 20 minutes it gave them a lovely taste.

Fruiting Months May and June

Planted: 2008

Height 2 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 2

Fruit Harvest: 4 kilograms per Year

First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Medium Sun

Water Given in: Spring

Pruned By: 3% in After Fruiting

Pollination: No

When I Fertilise: When Fruiting

Pest Control:

No sprays used

Organic Status:Organic

Question:

To add extra flavour to the beans we were wondering if we could add Macadamia Oil to the roasting procedure?
