Cherimoya - Seedling (Seedling) 7/10Fruitylicious1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2415 days 23hrs Comments: - Fruit of the gods. This must be the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden because human were forbidden to eat it. It is so delectable that the gods wanted to keep it for themselves. Not anymore fellow mortals. Cultivate it if you can to enjoy this sinfully delicious fruit. Its odd, my cheri seedling is the less vigorous grower among my cherimoyas considering they are all in the same microclimate, potting mix, fertilizer, amount of water given and pot size. May be it will catch up next season. Or may be its a dud, whatever i will give it one or two more seasons before deciding on its fate. Cherimoya - White (Grafted) 8/10Fruitylicious1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2415 days 23hrs Comments: - There are conflicting reports about this cherimoya variety but majority of it are positive. What I think is, oftentimes the taste of the fruit and its overall performance will greatly depend upon its microclimate. The nearer we can simulate its original habitat the greater the chance that it will reach its full potential. Add to that the general care given to the tree. Its the dominant commercial variety in the U.S. so a lot of people must have like it to become commercially viable for growers to produce. My white cheri will complement my recently acquired cheri sofia. Cherimoya - Fina de Jete (Grafted) 10/10Waterfall's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3435 days 0hrs Comments: - This was a rather tall plant without any branches when purchased but I cut it right back to get some low branches. Got some flowers in spring, not going to hand pollinate though, just let it grow larger this year, growth has been steady so far, tree shape is now good with lots of branches and the main trunk has thickened substantially. Cherimoya - Seedling (Seedling) 4/10Henry's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4610 days 24hrs Comments: - Planted four years ago and still not fruiting. This pic was taken in winter; will look much better during summer. Purchased from Daleys. August 2009: No growth activity. Pruned the tree. September 2009: No growth activity recorded. Applied sulphate of potash and watered in. Lost all its leaves, and tiny leaf buds are beginning to appear. October 2009: Leaves have sprouted all over and looking healthy. November 2009: Flowers have appeared and we have tried hand pollination, with a very small soft brush to collect pollen from male, then transferring onto female. So far, no signs of activity. December 2009 to February 2010: Lots of new leaves but I have decided to take it out due to the required hand pollination which has yet to bear fruit over the past few years. May put an R2E2 in its place. Planted: 2005 Height 12 Feet Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: Cow manure, sulphate of potash and fruit tree fertiliser Pest Control: Lime sulphur spray during winter and pest oil mid spring. Cherimoya - White (Grafted) 6/10Kathy2's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4632 days 19hrs Comments: - In spring/summer she grows so quickly she can easy get too wispy. Make sure you tip prune!!! I have to make sure to cut her back at least 30% when she loses her leaves otherwise the next spring she isn't strong enough to support all the new growth. Planted: 2008 Height 1.25 metres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Low Sun Pruned By: 30% in Autumn and Winter Pollination: Hand Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: chicken poo, seasol, charlie carp, worm castings When I Fertilise: Yearly Pest Control: Elephant weevils = only thing you can do is hunt them down, pick them off and squish them. Cherimoya - White 5/10Linnie's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5112 days 14hrs Comments: - This plant has been in the ground for years. When they say "Hand pollinate', they mean it. The only time it has carried fruit, I had methodically hand pollinated the few female flowers with pollen collected from the few males earlier. On that occasion, about 10 fruits developed until almost full and ripe, and HUGE; but then, overnight, the possums/bats etc munched them to nothing, so i've yet to taste one... Planted: 2005 Height 3 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: mulch, compost When I Fertilise: Yearly Pest Control: If I ever hand-pollinate agin, I will have to address the possum/bat issue! Organic Status:Partially Organic Question: Do I need to do something else such as prune this plant to get more fruit, or do I really have to hand-pollinate each season? Was this review helpful? Cherimoya - White (Grafted) 8/10Andrew's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5378 days 16hrs Comments: - I have found that the Cherimoya requires moist soil but not over water logged conditions. Also i try and maintain a steady pH between 6.0-7.0 and generally use a manutec product for fertilising then alternate to blood and bone and also fish emulsion to prevent toxic build-up of metals in the soil. Maintenance........just steady pruining to clean up dead or damaged branches and the flowers are VERY succeptable to wind damage not to mention leaves and branches .In general a very hardy and well balanced plant though height has to be kept in check that way it doesnt grow out of control and also have to take into account branch angles for when fruits form-the fruit can weight alot and snap branches with ease!!
