Macadamia - Bush Nut (Seedling) 10/10![]() Update: 1939 days 1hrs Comments: - Produces good crop of nuts each year. Handsome tree with beautiful pink flower racemes. Top pruned the tree to half size so as to be able to reach nuts. This resulted in a much denser lower tree. Fruiting Months April Planted: 2004 Height 5 metres Growing: In the Ground Fruit Harvest: 100 Fruit Per Year First Fruited: 4 Years from Seed Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Self Pollination When I Fertilise: Never Pest Control: Main problem are Rozellas and cockatoos - when young nuts are forming, they destroy every single one of the large crop of nuts. Must put netting over nuts within reach so as to save some of the crop. Some nuts affected by macadamia nut borer. Was this review helpful? Walnut - English (Grafted) 7/10![]() Update: 2479 days 18hrs Comments: - var. Chandler. While I got walnuts from this plant, I never really got it to grow well. It ended up with a root rot fungus which I successfully eliminated but it never was happy in a pot. My recommendation is that although you can grow them in Sydney, its best to plant these trees in the ground. I ended up giving this plant to someone who has the room to let it grow. The closely related pecans, though, are doing well in their pots. Macadamia - Bush Nut![]() Update: 3145 days 20hrs Comments: - I am hoping to successfully incorporate bush foods in with my edible garden. Height 80 Centimetres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: worm juice When I Fertilise: Spring Organic Status:Organic Question: I planted my macadamia tree in winter, and come spring have started to get brown patches on some of the leaves. The plant otherwise looks healthy at this stage. I can't see any sign of pests or anything on the underside of the leaves except for the same brown patches. What could this be? dwarf coconut-unknown var (Seedling) 7/10![]() Update: 3314 days 20hrs Comments: - I know I'm having myself on with these dwaft coconuts but the foliage is nice and besides, I like palms anyway. They got through last winter easily and have doubled in growth over the last year. I'm not expecting them to fruit anytime soon but they're a good show off to my visitors. At the moment they're in 25lit bonzai bags, and will have to be potted up into something bigger next year if the growth keeps happening. Donut (Grafted) 8/10Akkaydrah1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3411 days 4hrs Comments: - The Donut peach has an exceptionally sweet taste but the fruit is only about 50mm dia and donut shaped. This is the first year that we have had a significant amount of fruit (30 px). Tree has been attacked by cows, cockatoos and kangaroos so we have had to fence the orchard. This is an ideal fruit for kids going to school. It gets watered once per week by irrigation which is a poly ring 600 mm dia and under the mulch. This keeps the ground moist but not wet. long tap rooted weeds such as wild radish and scotch thistle are encouraged then chopped and mulched just before flowers go to seed. This breaks up the clay pan and provides nutrients to the tree. Dead roots provide water chanels top deep layers and encourage worms. Home made manure is from nettles, dead chooks, urine and fire ash soaked in water. This is diluted 1: 25 and watered over mulch in late February. Fruiting Months January and December Planted: 2011 Height 1.4 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 30 Fruit Per Year First Fruited: 3 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring SpringPollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: home mixed manure When I Fertilise: Yearly Pest Control: We hang dock weed in three or four forks of the tree to control pink curl. The tree is free from the virus in 2 seasons. Around the base of the tree is a layer of lucern mulch. which suppresses weeds. Keep mulch about 150mm back from Organic Status:Organic Was this review helpful?
