Mine is in the ground and it was waist height when I put it in the ground, it has been 10yrs and it had only grown a bit more than 0.5m in height .says... [5573 days 1hrs ago] says... Lychee - Kwai May Pink (B3) (Grafted) 10/10![]() Update: 852 days 3hrs Comments: - This lychee is doing awesome in the ground. Turns out they like slightly acidic soil, so it's been planted next to our blueberry hedge to take advantage of the work already done to acidify that area. It suffered shock and stress when we first planted it, lost all its leaves and appeared dormant over Christmas, however it's green, leafy, happy and thriving now. Still too little t produce, but it attempted to fruit last year (kept our local bees happy!) but dropped all its fruit. Maybe this year or next year we will get a harvest but, even if not, patience is key. Lychee Kwai Mai Pink (Grafted) 7/10![]() Update: 2239 days 4hrs Comments: - Previously known as Bosworth 3. A compact tree here and has been quite challenging to get to fruit. It doesn't like the lime in our bore water so I have to use acidifying fertilisers to keep it green and happy. I can become a little chlorotic in our winters - so is perhaps chill-sensitive. Is very recalitrant to flower and fruit. Had no flowers this season due to a boron insufficiency, for eg. Lychee Tai So 7/10Amanda's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2239 days 4hrs Comments: - Marcotted. Only very small as yet. Doesn't like the lime in our bore water so has to managed the same as the Kwai Mai Pink we have. Tai So is reputed to be a more heat tolerant variety than Kwai Mai Pink - for Perth. It will be interesting to see how it performs in my slightly colder and wetter winters here. I am hoping that cross-pollination will improve fruit set for both lychees. Planted: 2018 Height 0.5 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring SpringPollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Acid lovers balanced, alternating with slow release organic chook manure pellets. Lychee - Bosworth 3![]() Update: 4935 days 20hrs Comments: - Im growing this Kwai Mai Pink (B-3) tree in a pot. Has fruited second year in pot. Very tough compared to other Lychees. Yes | No | Report 9 of 15 people found this review useful CommentsDiana says... [4896 days 8hrs ago]This is great, BJ. I have a dwarf wai chee in a pot, 4 years old and never fruited (it lost all its leaves for a while last year) in central western Brisbane. It sounds as though Bosworth 3 would be better. I have heard Anette McFarlane say that conditions for lychee fruiting are right in Brisbane about once every ten years.BJ says... [4895 days 19hrs ago] Yes Diana, the B-3 will fruit every year here. Many others are biennial at best, but B-3 will crop heavily each year, even with heavy pruning at the right times and in a pot if you can keep it under control. Many other types are unsuited to pots due to their reluctance to fruit after pruning. The other suitable pot specimen is the Salathiel, but it bears biennially, but bears well when it does, and is a much smaller tree with one of the best fruits.sandy31 says... Lychee - Bosworth 3 7/10![]() Update: 5115 days 3hrs Comments: - I just love lychees. This tree is only very young and has struggled to get moving. I mulched the tree with mulch purchased from the local rubbish tip and it has taken off. New growth abounding which is a little odd for winter time. All my trees seem to have enjoyed warmer roots. I must admit to have tried a lychee many years ago without success. But they are grown commercially here so perhaps my management wasn't the best. Here's hoping for better luck this time. Lychee - Bosworth 3 (Cutting) 9/10![]() Update: 5323 days 19hrs Comments: - Just planted (Aug09) July 2010 - doing very well. I think it loves the constant subsoil moisture from the Biolytix. Not phased by the scorching summer or wind. Nov 2010: Now in a 35L tree bag in an enclosed shade house. Has a dozen fruit at present and likes the shadehouse. The ants loved the flowers so I am guessing they did the pollination job.
