This is in the back corner of the garden . Macadamia 741 is supposed to be able to be heavily pruned . Thats why i bought that variety .

Because this is an Australian rainforest tree it needs a fertiliser with very little phosphorous . Less that 3% is good . Load the tree up with mulch , and because it is a rainforest tree it doesn't matter if the mulch is right up against the trunk . All plants need sun to grow including rainforest plants . When planting pretend its a rose and cultivate the soil well before planting . They have timid roots so needs a big loosened area to grow well . Excellent drainage in full sun .

quite happy with this type   didnt grow much in cooler months but both are going well early summer

2016 second year of flowering. harvested 8 nuts 1st year, this year both trees have a few dozen pollinated nuts.  a nice strong structure to the tree. only pest is thin film which develops over leaves which causes that spot to die. only a few leaves are affected so i never bothered with sprays. little care needed very happy

What temperatures do you get down to in the Adelaide hills? I am planning to plant these as a windbreak/hedge for my orchard in alb/Wodonga region, and get a fair few frosts. and the occasional -3/-4 frost.
