My Edible Fruit Trees: Dwarf Apple Trees WA

Choose Your State: ALL NSW QLD VIC WA ACT NT SA TAS NT

Dwarf Custard Apple - Tropic Sun (Grafted) 8/10

Amanda's Edible Fruits
Update: 2008 days 22hrs

Comments: - This is our very first fruit, but the tree has been flowering for the past 2yrs. Seems to have some trouble self pollinating so I may have to assist next time. It's almost totally deciduous in our winter here. It's growing strongly and is in a large raised bed facing north - in our pool area which has a 6ft brick wall around it - so a nice microclimate in winter and summer.

Planted: 2014

First Fruited: 4 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Pollination: Hand Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced Acid lovers alternating with slow release organic chook manure pellets, little and often during the growing season. Sulphur in early spring if needed.

The birds pick at it when the fruit is tiny, and thin it out for me. By the time the fruit rippens the birds have gone off it, and we get lovely apples:)

Nice side branching, use clothes pegs above the buds to keep the new shoots horizontal.

Dwarf Apple - Pink Lady (Grafted) 9/10

Mitchyb's Edible Fruits
Update: 5199 days 11hrs

I LOVE this apple! Compared to those in the supermarkets, nothing even comes close! I remember the first apple I ate from this tree. It was a dark pink, as I  bit into it I felt the juices dribbling down my mouth, and a burst of flavour delivered to my senses. Total extasy! The sweetness, with a hint of tartness, and the power and flavour of a hundred store bought apples, meant that I spent the entire afternoon, gauging myself on every apple on the tree!

This tree is the one that started it all for me. I now have five apple, five pear, two plum, two peach, one nectarine, five passionfruit, ten grapes, six citrus, two cherry, three gauva, two mulberry and four olives! This tree started an obsession.

Planted 15th of November this year, did flower very well, but they were lost in the strong winds. Hoping that they will stick next season when the foliage is thicker.

Unfortunately it has powdery mildew, which it had when I purchased it, but as a newby I didn't know anything about pests and diseases...

there's lots of possible things for powdery mildew - apparently milk works well. I was surprised to find some in my courtyard (despite no spray watering) but haven't treated it yet
Diana says... [5422 days 11hrs ago]
One part milk to nine parts water is a preventative. If you can see symptoms, you probably need something stronger. Milk didn't do much for me, but regular seaweed solution has really helped in my garden. Diana.
Mish says... [5412 days 1hrs ago]
Thanks guys. I treated with Copper only twice and have found the hot weather to be more beneficial than spraying... fingers crossed for next season.

Partnered with the Dorsett, Not as good cropping but I think thats because of the shape. Trying to get more laterals.
Brad1 says... [5191 days 9hrs ago]
pretty sure the kuffel creek book said anna took a little while then went nuts. Needed lots of thinning. Dorsett is an animal - no apple will keep up with it in early years
