Mango - Bowen (Seedling) 10/10Steven's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5402 days 4hrs Comments: - Bought a couple of years ago, i protected it in winter for the first couple of seasons but now its in a large pot outside fully exposed during winter and it does fine. Last season it flowered and a few fruits set but dropped them shortly after. Its a young tree though so its common for that to happen so im not worried. So far im really happy with how its grown. Everyone told me it would not be able to survive here and will die during its first winter. Mango - Calypso (Seedling) 8/10![]() Update: 1468 days 16hrs Comments: - This mango is a Calypso seedling I planted in 2012. It has a very small and compact growth habit and is just over a meter tall at 7 years old. I transplanted it into a 130L pot thinking that it was root bound in its original 60L pot only to discover that it had a very small root system and was nowhere near filling its original pot. This probably explains its dwarf growth habit. this is the only mango that currently grows in my yard that doesn%u2019t require any spraying of fungicides to control anthracnose. It seems to have a very high natural resistance to this disease. It has just started flowering in 2019 and has set many fruit. Hopefully they will hang on till maturity and taste at least as good as the original Calypso. Mango - Mahachanok/King Thai (Grafted) 10/10![]() Update: 2185 days 3hrs Comments: - This is the best tasting mango I have ever eaten - either here or overseas etc. It's incredible. A lovely complex flavour that is sweet but has this addictive sub-acid undercurrent to it's flavour profile. I am crazy for them. Little fibre, super flat seed - so very large flesh-seed ratio. If you love mangoes then do yourself a favour and plant this one - you won't regret it. The tree is also a semi dwarf type - which is very handy. Planted: 2014 Height 3 metres Growing: In the Ground First Fruited: 3 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced Acid lovers alternating with slow release organic chook manure pellets. Little and often. Some sulphur in early spring, iron sulphate in winter occasionally. Question: If I remove the early flowers I get a second flush of flowers at a better time later in spring - but these second flower flushes look different - are they just as productive? Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report 8 of 16 people found this review useful CommentsEdward3 says... MANGO - NAM DOC MAI Mangifera indica 10/10![]() Update: 3376 days 21hrs Comments: - Always wanted a mango tree, unfortunatley i live in Adelaide and so need a more cold tolerant variety- so bought this MANGO - NAM DOC MAI Mangifera indica from Daley's - it is a grafted variety from Daley's so i hope to see fruit on the tree sooner than if grown from seed, but all in all it is performing very well and as you can see it has just finished putting out a new flush of growth ( Mango is 10 weeks old), i also have another species of mango (R2E2) i think thats the name ...not sure but it's also doing very well in the Adelaide climate. Mango - Ono (Grafted)BJ11_old_address's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4743 days 17hrs Comments: - This is supposed to be a very tough form of mango. It is growing in a large pot after my Palmer dwarf finally expired. I've put down strawberries as a living mulch and the mango seems quite happy. It has a few branches but isn't growing at a great rate yet (April 2011) As of June 2011 the plant has put on a spurt and added a further 2 branches. It doesn't seem to want to get any taller - but it does seem healthy! By the end of 2011 it had several flowers and set fruit. In Jan 2012 I thinned this to 3 fruit only. It is still putting on new growth. OMG ... home grown mangos are something else entirely. Anyone that can should grow a mango. These were little fruit 12cm long ... but delicious (and the pips were also small). So yummy. I staked both trnks, and bound them, has bounced back, wound seems to have healed, and it growing really well UPDATE 2012: This has a settled in to a dozen good sized mangoes on-board, and has really flourished this year.. and has forgiven me for accidentally "clefting it in twain" from while throwing a sheet a fencing iron behind me whilst working Just popped out of compost heap when living in Blue Mountains, so I dragged it back here. No fruit yet, but others in the area go well. I will graft it with a named variety very shortly. It's growing quite well in full sun, on the high/dry side of my garden. I've recently added a swale for it and the other trees in same vicinity.
