Comments: - This beautiful passionfruit vine is a different looking vine to the panama varieties I have, the leaves start brown when unfurling before lightening to a pleasent green. Very healthy, I bought on clearance from Bunnings in very poor health. It is now robust and dense and thriving. Very happy with this plant!

Absolutely thriving, holy smokes, I planted this in a raised bed with three other passionfruit varieties thinking "see how they go", bought them on clearance in poor health. Well. Now they are overtaking the fence and so very bushy and dense and healthy. A much prettier sight than the bare wire fence. We are thrilled. So easy to grow!

May 2020 - The vines have been growing well. No flowers to date. We will see how it copes with winter in Toowoomba - may have to bring it inside on cool nights.

September 2021 - Survived outside in Toowoomba winter, however has not yet fruited. In 25L planter bag - perhaps needs to be in the ground,

September 2021 - In 25L pot. Set many fruit, however dropped them all and lost all leaves over winter (Toowoomba). Brought plant inside every night last year, but did not this year. Currently appears dead. 

Panama gold seedling (purchased same time) have not flowered yet but have survived the winter outside.

May 2020 - Has put on a reasonable amount of new growth. Trying to grow in pot - up a stake temporarily before a final place has been decided for it to grow on. Began flowering in April, set it's first fruit this May after hand pollination was attempted. We will see how it copes with winter in Toowoomba - may have to bring it inside on cool nights.

Comments: - Vine has finally started fruiting--looks like it wasn't getting enough sunlight in spring and autumn, as it's to the south of the house. 2020 we got beautiful sweet fruit where it had escaped up into the trees.

Comments: - Passiflora quadrangularis Growing on an east facing fence. Much better this year, has  been allowed to grow into neighbouring trees, harvesting now a problem, no hand pollination needed. Flesh is mildly sweet. Not hand pollinated.

Hi Coralie, I have Lilikoi, Red and also Yellow Panama. As I do not pollinate by hand, I can't really tell you, but I suspect you may be able to self pollinate it with a small camel hair brush.

Hi Again, Yes we have been hand pollinating - but it hasnt worked at all. keen to try lilikoi, so this just gives me an excuse.. Coralie

I tried pollinating by hand from Lilikoi in teh second year of the Granadilla, but it didn't work. However I suspect the age and size of the Granadilla may play a part, I have three Granadilla planted in close proximity (ca. 2 metres).

Love, love, love my Panama passionfruit!! 

Planted in early Autumn against the north facing brick wall in a mound of compost, over a handful of chicken livers, and the thing has gone great guns ever since. It gets nothing but rain water now, and the VERY occasional handful of pelletised chicken manure. Mulched with whatever is as hand. It has attempted to TAKE OVER THE WORLD- or, my house. It has vicious weedy morning glory winding all around it and it just does not care.

I've yet to build a trellis it actually stays on; it would much prefer to grow wherever it wants, around the corner and along the ground on the west side of the house and then climb the stairs to take over the security screens. Or up through the old crepe myrtle five meters away and across the grass. 

I get dozens and DOZENS of fruit every year, but while the vine goes ballistic over summer, it is not until the rains come down in March that it flowers (even if I manually water and water- it only responds to heavy rains!), and then I'm harvesting for almost the entire Autumn/Winter season. I then cut it back for the beginning of spring, and let it go crazy again over Summer. It definitely does not go dormant in the cooler months, but then, Brisbane does not get terribly cold to begin with?

Fruit is tart and sweet and very juicy and super delicious, really lovely strong passionfruit taste, almost sweet, without being sour. The rind is thick, but the pulp is generous, and the fruit is very large. The taste really is outstanding, and everything we make with them tastes incredible. That's on limited rain water alone, and far superior to anything we've ever bought from the shops. 

I'm trying to make room for a Yellow Panama, now, as my vine has just had it's third fruiting season, and I'm told it will start to wind down soon, and die in three years or so? I'm sort of addicted to a massive amount of passionfruit to find purpose for. Freezing the last of it for Christmas works really well, and saves me a butt load with putting together the Christmas pavlovas!

Comments: - Tried but DIED. I had this planted along the same wall as my Panama, about a meter away, same growing conditions and same treatment. The black was fussy, wilted badly without twice daily watering in my Brisbane heat even after growing strong in the ground over Autumn, Winter and Spring. Prone to some sort of insect I never identified, and ultimately kicked the bucket once the morning glory came near it. Not sorry to see it go. Was unproductive and fussy. Much prefer the fruit of the Panama anyway!

Not sure it's actually this, we lost the tags on pretty much all the fruit. It was actually called royal red or something, big fist sized fruits on a massive vine that covers over half of my big bottlebrush trees canopy. Always drops green fruit since the cockatoos pull them off and nibble at half of them. Very rarely fruitbats go for them too. It's on a hill, so no ladder possible, all the fruit is out of our reach. Pretty much never stops fruiting except in extreme drought or cold.
