Kiwiberry - Issai

The only selection that is self fertile, producing hairless Kumquat sized fruit. Originating in Japan, this selection will start cropping in its 2nd year. Taste is similar to the normal Kiwifruit. While having hermaphrodite flowers and achieving fruit set on its own, if you have the room, plant another variety for a more abundant harvest.

Loquat - Nagasakiwase

The best Japanese variety so far, it has deep orange flesh, high flesh/seed ratio and very sweet flavour. Earliest variety to ripen. Thinning fruit will enhance fruit size. The Nagasakiwase often has 2 crops a year in the subtropics. The first crop in April / May then again in August. We have found by cincturing in summer, the August crop has a much larger crop and better fruit size.

The vines bear pinkish-red grapes that are very large and rounded like plums. Bunches are large, conical and well filled. The fruit has large seeds and is crisp and crunchy with a delicate flavour and fleshy pulp. They are best suited to climates with hot, dry summers, they are not well suited to humid coastal climates.

Ugni ( Tazziberry )

This popular little ornamental plant should be planted anywhere the strawberry aroma from the fruit can be appreciated. It is ideally grown as a low growing hedge or a container specimen. The small glossy dark-green leaves are tinged with a beautiful red growth when young. The plant becomes smothered with fluffy white flowers in summer and bears pea sized burgundy fruit, that lighten as they ripen, in the autumn. It is best eaten on its own to really appreciate the unique aromatic flavour.

Palm - Date Khadrawy

Originally from Iraq, Khadrawy dates are a much smaller date that has a high moisture content, less sugar, and a milder flavour than the popular Medjool dates. They are a dark mahogany colour with dry, flaky, paper-like skin. Our palms are small seedlings and are not sexed, they will take about 4-6 years to flower approximately and you will not be able to tell if they are male or female until then. We recommend a planting of at least three to increase your chances of having both a male and a female palm.

Large, flat fruit of excellent quality, non-astringent and seedless when grown on its own. Being a dwarf variety it is well suited to backyards but is also a good commercial variety. Will fruit as early as March in the subtropics. Ichikikijiro generally produce only one flush of growth in the spring so don't be alarmed if your tree is not growing in summer, this habit contributes to their small stature.

A highbush selection requiring 750-1200 hours of chill, it does best on cooler climates. Earliest fruiting variety from early December. Good size fruit. Most important. Blueberries require an acid soil with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5. They also require a free draining loose friable soil. They dislike clay heavy soils. To aide the successful establishment of bushes it is best to build up beds by incorporating peat moss and garden soils at a 50/50 ratio. Peat is preferred as it is naturally acidic.

Kiwiberry - Red Female

The name Hardy Kiwifruit comes from the fact that this species can tolerate very low winter temperatures and at the same time doesn't require a lot of winter chill, so can be grown over a wide climatic range. Pollinates with a regular male kiwi fruit. Hardy kiwifruits are smaller than normal Kiwifruit, an inch or so long. Fruits are borne in clusters and have smooth, edible skins so can be eaten just like grapes. Feijoa - Unique

This is a self fertile cultivar from New Zealand. It is a small, productive, vigorous tree growing to about 2.5m making it ideal for smaller back yards. Fruit has a good, mildly aromatic flavour. It is medium sized with flesh that is smooth, soft and juicy. Fruits ripen early in the season. Performs well in cooler areas. The fruit handles well and is a good keeper.

Goji Berry - Vine

This variety of Goji berry is similar to Lycium barbarum the shrub, but it's growth habit is more vine-like. The Goji Berry is native to the Himalayas and inner Mongolia where it has been used for thousands of years and is held in high regard. They have a juicy taste comparable to cranberries or tangy plums. The fruit of L. chinense is as tasty as that of L. barbarum however the skin has a stronger flavour. The Goji Berry vine is a sprawling shrubby vine that lives for 5-8 years. The fruits are small and shiny red with oval berries about 1cm long with lots of small edible seeds in the center.
